HealthPartners Bargaining update for January 9, 2014 from SEIU members Clara Boykin, Jean Pfarr and Denise Enyi.
Arden Hills, MN – The Partnership for Quality Care (PQC) held a press conference at the HealthPartners Arden Hills Clinic today urging all health care workers to get a flu vaccination to keep themselves, their patients, their colleagues and their families safe. The event featured HealthPartners President and CEO Mary Brainerd and SEIU Healthcare Minnesota President Jamie Gulley, both Board Members of the Partnership for Quality Care.
The flu season has yet to hit its peak, but health care leaders today stressed that the time to get the flu vaccine is now, before the illness begins to spread more widely.
“In Minnesota alone, over 3,000 people were hospit
alized with influenza last year,” Brainerd said. “Getting a flu shot is easy, safe, and free to our employees at our facilities. It is protection not just for you, but for the people around you as well. The flu can begin to spread in October, the time to get a shot is now.”
SEIU Healthcare Minnesota President Jamie Gulley spoke of members’ pride in doing everything they could to prevent their patients from getting the flu.
“Our members know first hand how dangerous influenza can be,” said Gulley. “They are making sure their co-workers, their families, their communities, and their patients are protected against this serious illness.”
Both leaders praised the partnership between health care providers and caregivers to improve the health and safety of everyone in the community, and stressed the importance of getting immunized before the peak of flu season.
“Getting a shot early in the flu season means you’re doing your part to keep yourself, your family, your co-workers and your community healthy,” said Gulley. “Together with PQC and HealthPartners, we will continue to ensure that health care workers get immunized against the flu.”
