URGENT STATEMENT TO SEIU HCMNIA MEMBERS FROM THE EXECUTIVE BOARD

January 18, 2026

We support the call for state-wide community and labor action on January 23, 2026, to protest the presence and conduct of ICE, CBP, and other federal agents in Minnesota.

We support the call for state-wide community and labor action on January 23, 2026, to protest the presence and conduct of ICE, CBP, and other federal agents in Minnesota.  The collective bargaining agreement that applies to you includes a no-strike provision and you are an essential healthcare worker, so you are not legally permitted to strike on January 23.  In fact, your participation in a strike may result in being terminated from your job.

In solidarity with people across Minnesota, we encourage all members not to buy anything on January 23rd.  We also encourage any members who are not scheduled to work during the afternoon of January 23rd to participate in the community and labor action in downtown Minneapolis starting at 2 pm.  Stay tuned for details about the community and labor action.

We are committed to protecting our members and supporting them to ensure workplace safety and fairness. We will be hosting Know Your Rights presentations in member workplaces, union halls and on-line, and we will announce the dates and times for additional trainings soon.

NOTE:

In addition, for members interested in taking labor action on the morning of Friday, January 23rd, our Union will be conducting an informational picket at several HealthPartners clinic locations in support of their contract negotiations (and where appropriate federal notices have been filed). All available members are invited to join us there as well.

In Solidarity,

President Jamie Gulley and the Executive Board
